I was wondering where developers use the library as the WMF is almost obsolete format. Here are some possible application I can think of:

  • software that needs to keep backward compatibility with old image formats
  • software that converts between various image formats, e.g. for converting old clipart archives to newer formats
  • for analyzing damaged WMF files
  • clipboard copy/paste
  • WMF is still used for clipart in Microsoft Word - the library may be suitable for building and inserting automatically generated images, e.g. QR Codes

Do you find any other reason to use (and futher develop) the library? Or you can put any known application using the WMF library to the list...

Esponce QR Code plugin for Microsoft Office uses the WMF library to generate vector images of QR Codes that are inserted to documents (spreadsheets, presentations, e-mail messages). User can then resize QR Code image while preserving the quality of modules (i.e. black squares in QR Code).
